Cloud UX | Octopus | Release Notes

This document describes changes, new features, improvements, and bug fixes for the Cloud UX | Octopus application.

We recommend reviewing these release notes thoroughly before installing or upgrading the software.

Version 2025.10.0

Changes and New Features

  • Avid MediaCentral | Cloud UX v2025.10 Compatibility
    • Full support for Avid MediaCentral | Cloud UX v2025.10, ensuring seamless integration with the matching platform version and its latest features.
  • Story Navigation Enhancement
    • Added Next and Previous buttons for navigating between stories within an opened rundown, making it faster to review and edit sequential stories without returning to the rundown list.

  • Selected Text Reading Duration
    • The application now displays the reading duration for selected text in stories, helping users estimate voiceover timing more accurately.
    • Calculation now ignores all punctuation marks for more precise duration estimates.

Changes and New Features

  • Auto-Load Sequence in Embedded Mode
    • Added setting to automatically load linked sequences to the player when working in embedded mode (Media Composer, Adobe Premiere Pro), streamlining the editing workflow.
  • Voiceover Creation with TracoAvatar
    • Integrated TracoAvatar functionality for creating voiceovers directly from stories.
    • Voiceover creation automatically opens the created asset in the player.
    • Users can customize output name and folder location for voiceover files.
    • ⚠️ Note: If the voiceover has no sound after opening, MediaIndexer may not have indexed the new asset yet. Use the Reload Asset button above the player to refresh the asset.

Fixed

  • Voiceover creation response is now delayed by 2 seconds to prevent MediaIndexer not found errors.

Version 2024.10.0

    • Interplay PAM requests have been reworked to support the new Cloud UX architecture.
  • Improved Backend Architecture
    • Web Services operations are now proxied through Traco ACS v2 instead of ACS v1, improving reliability and performance.
    • Licensing now uses the Traco ACS v2 system for better license management.

Changes and New Features

  • Customizable Linked Sequence Names
    • Administrators can now define a custom pattern for linked sequence names, providing better organization and naming consistency across the newsroom.
  • Auto-Refresh Control
    • Added toggle button for controlling automatic refresh of rundowns, story folders, and other lists, giving users control over when content is updated.
    • Auto-refresh now pauses when the application is not visible, reducing unnecessary network traffic and server load.
  • Story Name Quick Copy
    • Double-clicking an opened story name in the header now copies the story name to clipboard for easy reference or sharing.
  • Production Engine ID Automation
    • Production Engine ID is now automatically parsed via CTMS instead of requiring manual configuration in settings.
  • Improved Performance
    • User settings are now saved with debouncing to reduce unnecessary server requests.
    • Rundowns list filtering is debounced by 800ms for smoother performance when typing filters.

Fixed

  • Rundowns list time filter can now be set to 0 hours.
  • Clip's Object ID and name are now consistently displayed in story element headers.

Fixed

  • Error message no longer appears when Web Services are unavailable during linked sequence search.

  • Application no longer crashes when users have no saved settings.

Version 2022.12

    • Full support for Avid MediaCentral | Cloud UX v2022.12, ensuring seamless integration with the matching platform version and its latest features.
  • Integration with Traco GFX
    • Added integration with Traco GFX for working with graphics elements in Octopus stories, enabling enhanced graphics workflow capabilities.

Fixed

  • Pasting text into stories now correctly removes all formatting and HTML elements, ensuring clean text entry.
  • Invalid timecodes are now marked in red while typing and will not be saved, preventing data entry errors.
  • Story elements are now sorted alphabetically for easier navigation.
  • Linked sequence message no longer appears after removing a clip from a story element.
  • In workflows using PAM Web Services, the OctopusNrcsID attribute is now correctly added when dragging and dropping to story element headers.

Version 2021.11

Changes and New Features

  • Avid MediaCentral | Cloud UX v2021.11 Compatibility
    • Full support for Avid MediaCentral | Cloud UX v2021.11 with deprecated APIs removed for improved performance and stability.
  • Terminology Update
    • Phrase "Placeholder Sequence" in settings replaced with "Linked Sequence" for clarity.
  • Story Folder Support
    • Added support for creating new stories directly in story folders.
  • Linked Sequence Settings
    • Setting "Link Story to Sequence" changed to "Save Story Id to Linked Sequence" for improved clarity.
  • Interplay Attribute Priority Setting
    • New setting introduced: "When Opening Linked Sequences Prioritize Based On Interplay Attribute".
    • Administrators can define which Interplay Attribute will be used for comparison when opening Linked Sequences.
    • Separate setting for searching in /Projects and /Sent to Playback.
  • Story Modification Handling
    • When a story is modified from another client while opened in Cloud UX, users will now need to confirm the save operation if they did not have the last saved version of the story opened before starting local modifications.
    • Previous warning messages have been replaced with this confirmation workflow.

Fixed

  • Minor bug fixes and performance improvements.

Version 2021.7.1

Changes and New Features

  • Automatic Octopus Story ID to PAM Attribute
    • The Octopus story ID can now be automatically saved into a PAM attribute OctopusNrcsID when creating placeholder sequences (required for Burn GFX workflows).
    • ⚠️ Important: PAM attribute OctopusNrcsID must be manually created in Interplay Administrator before using this feature.
  • Story Status Management
    • Displaying all available built-in and custom story statuses for stories.
    • Updating story statuses directly from the Story Editor.

Fixed (v2021.7.2)

  • Story element clip duration OUT was updated incorrectly when its linked sequence was opened in Cloud UX | MediaPlayer. Starting from this version, the duration of the story element clip will not be changed when saving a story from Cloud UX | Octopus.
  • Minor performance improvements.

Fixed (v2021.7.1)

  • Error messages no longer overload the browser after upgrading Cloud UX to v2021.3.
  • Cloud UX | Octopus app can now be closed properly in all circumstances.
  • Metadata tab inside the Asset Inspector is now consistently visible when the Cloud UX page is opened or refreshed with the opened Cloud UX | Octopus app.
  • Settings app of Cloud UX | Octopus now displays all styling information correctly.

Version 2021.3

⚠️ Important: From this version the name of the feature pack has been changed from octopus to traco-octopus. This change also affects all Kubernetes resources like the name of its Deployment, Pods, Replica Sets, etc.

Changes and New Features

  • Automatic Video ID Generation
    • New setting to allow generating video ID for story elements if they do not already have video ID assigned.
  • Placeholder Sequence Type Configuration
    • New setting to define the type of the created placeholder sequences.
    • Available values:
      • WEB_SEQUENCE = Sequence
      • ADVANCE = News Sequence (default)
      • BASIC = Shotlist

Fixed

  • Closing a story now correctly switches back to the rundown view in all cases.
  • Dropdown menus for filters and context actions now display properly in all scenarios.
